Highway Entrance Permits

A written permit issued by the County Engineer is required for construction, modification, removal, or other work associated with an access driveway within County Highway right-of-way other than work performed by the Tazewell County Highway Department.  All such permitted work shall be performed by the applicant at the applicant's expense in accordance with the permit requirements as issued by the County Engineer.  All resulting improvements within the County Highway right-of-way meeting the approval of the County Engineer shall become the property of the county by statute.  Tazewell County Highway Department applies the Illinois Department of Transportation's "Policy on Permits for Access Driveways to State Highways" in the discretion of the County Engineer.  The location and intended use of the entrance is required information for the Office of County Engineer to determine what additional information may be necessary and what conditions and restrictions may need to be placed on the permit.  A plan may be required in order to issue a permit.  Interested parties are encouraged to call the Tazewell County Highway Department at (309) 925-5532 as a first step.

A $15 fee is required for each highway entrance permit.

Utility Permits

A written permit issued by the County Engineer is required for ditches, drains, track, rails, poles, wires, pipe line, or other equipment to be placed anywhere within County Highway right-of-way by any public utility company, municipal corporation, or other public or private corporation, association, or person.  The location of the proposed utility facilities, their alignment and/or offset relative to the highway right-of-way or centerline, and whether they are proposed to be buried or aerial are all necessary items of information for the Office of County Engineer to determine what additional information may be necessary and what conditions and restrictions may need to be placed on the permit.  Interested parties are encouraged to call the Tazewell County Highway Department at (309) 925-5532 as a first step.

Tazewell County Highway Department does not currently charge a fee for utility permits, however, the applicant may incur some expense for related costs.  As an example, a title commitment from an acceptable title company is necessary in order for the County Engineer to issue a permit to place a sub-surface drain within county highway right-of-way.
