Structures closed to traffic are those
structures that the Illinois Department
of Transportation has determined cannot
safely carry any traffic. Permits
will not be issued for vehicles to cross
these structures and permits do not
allow a vehicle to cross these
structures. |
| Structures Posted with a Weight Limit |
|
Structures that the Illinois Department
of Transportation has determined cannot
safely withstand the routine traffic of
the weight limits permissible by statute
on the road it serves are posted at a
lower weight limit such that the
structure can safely withstand such
traffic. Permits will not be issued
for vehicles to cross these structures
above their posted weight limits and
permits do not allow a vehicle to cross
these structures above their posted
weight limits. |
| Structures Posted for Legal Load Only |

Structures that the Illinois Department
of Transportation has determined can
safely withstand the routine traffic of
the weight limits permissible by statute
on the road it serves but which cannot
safely be subjected to routine traffic
above the weight limits permissible by
statute on the road it serves are
limited to legal loads only.
Permits will not be issued for vehicles
to cross these structures above the
statutory legal load limit for the road
which the structure serves. |

Structures that cannot safely carry
routine traffic of the statutory legal
maximum width or height are posted with
signs indicating the width and/or height
restriction of the structure.
Permits will not be issued for vehicles
exceeding those dimensions to cross
these structures and permits do not
allow a vehicle exceeding those
dimensions to cross these structures. |
